Ford 2.2 TDCi (DRFF)
The Transit has become somewhat of an icon in the light commercial arena; so much so that its’ probably the only van model that 99% of people can name.
Launched in 1965, it has become the best-selling van in history, with a whopping 8 million sold worldwide.
The base transit has been modified in many ways over the years to accommodate almost every need, including a couple of whacky versions that you won’t have seen on the road. The best of all being the Ford-built Transit Limousine that was commissioned to celebrate winning international van of the year.
The rise in popularity of torquey turbo diesels served the transit well. Far more refined than the oil burners of old, the 2.2 & 2.4 TDCi made perfect sense when mated with any of the various Transits; whether it be van, minibus or pick-up, the 2.2 TDCI was probably the best pairing.
