FAI Sponsored Race Team Climb Leader Board

Aragon, the first European round of the championship and the first opportunity for team Aruba.it to introduce Michael Rinaldi to the line-up. A newbie to the arena of WSBK,  he can count on support and advice from seasoned riders, Chaz & Marco.

Throughout the various free-practice sessions each rider set about honing individual settings, Marco improving high speed stability, Chaz comparing rear tyre compounds and Rinaldi finding his feet on a more powerful stallion than he’s used to.

Chaz took a dive in the super-pole resulting in an 11th position start for race 1. Despite this handicap, the Welshman showed his experience of the track combined with the fearless way in which he rides to catch the leaders. He clinched 2nd place before the flag came down, taking a proud position on the podium.

Melandri looked a strong contender for much of the race, however, whilst braking in to a turn he momentarily left the track, putting him in forth.

Michael Rinaldi came out swinging, riding near the leader pack for much of the race, he finished in a very respectable 8th.

Chaz put on a great show for spectators on Sundays’ race two, seemingly unhindered by a third row start, he took first place around lap 5. Once across the finish line, he completed the momentous race with a bow. That’s his 7th win at the Spanish track and his second of the season so far, putting him in 2nd overall.

To further boast the presence of team Aruba.it on the leader board, Melandri rode a solid race producing a podium position of third, possibly a lesser position than he might have gained if a rear brake issue hadn’t arisen. The veteran rider sits just below Davies in third on the championship listings.

Rinaldi continued to impress his piers by finishing 7th. Hungry to learn and eager to win, this rookie really is “one to watch”.

The shortest possible break has been left between the April races, meaning the guys will be back in action this weekend (20 – 22nd) to compete at the Assen circuit, situated in northern Holland. We’re not sure who’s more excited, us or them…Us!
