The original CLS launched in 2005 was lauded for its outlandish, aggressive styling out of character with traditional Mercedes standards of conservative vehicle design. In 2011 the second-generation Mercedes Benz CLS was launched. It was considered a backwards step, design wise, despite wide wheel arches and large road presence it’s build quality and interior soon won over most of its critics.
The new CLS offered all the luxury and prestige of cars like the E & S Class but with the design of a sporty coupe. The only draw back of this sloped back design was less head room for taller passengers. It was available to buy with a choice of efficient four or six cylinder diesel engines and V6 or V8 petrol engines.
Suspension on the CLS is very stable on the standard steel springs or for those with deeper pockets, air suspension was available as an upgrade.
