SIL-2DB or not DB, that is the question.

Silicon RTV meaning Room Temperature Vulcanising, basically  means the material will set at room temperature. FAI Silicone RTV, has had the material specification improved offering greater density for even better sealing. It is now available in a 12 tube display box (SIL-2DB)! Ideal to place on your trade counter to satisfy your customers impulse purchases! Each tube is individually boxed and includes 2 applicator tubes and key to maximise material usage.

Also available individually as SIL-2.

Use of RTV in OE design and assembly is growing, because RTV can be used in any shape and is ideal for robotic application, as robots will be calibrated to apply the correct amount of RTV to create a fluid proof seal, but not too much to allow excess to contaminate the engine.

When using RTV by hand, applying excessive amounts will have a detrimental effect. The amount applied must be enough to create the seal, but not too much to allow excess RTV from being squeezed out of the joint and into the engine oil and coolant galleries. If these galleries become contaminated, the RTV will reduce flow, cause blockages and in extreme cases cause engine failure due to overheating and/or seizure.

RTV must never be applied to a gasket or seal, physical seals/gaskets are designed to be fitted dry. Addition of RTV or any other compound will compromise the gasket and result in premature avoidable failure.
