The Tiguan has gone from one of the most incorrectly pronounced models to a household name, mainly due to the gains in popularity of SUVs since its launch back in 2007.
The mid-sized SUV doesn’t have the same off-roading credentials offered by some manufacturers or the bargain price of others. Instead, it offers a distinctly VW flavour; understated and neat in appearance, carrying with it an air of dependability.
This has proved to be a winning formula for VW, who has been riding high on the wave of practical vehicles that utilise their height rather than length. Chuck in a nice ride height so you can manoeuvre those pesky kids on the school run and you’re golden.
Despite a mid-life face lift in 2011 most components have been used on the Tiguan throughout its life. This spells good news for the supply of parts, especially when just two main engines used, were the 1.4 TSi and the more common 2.0 TDi.
